Thursday 1 September - Nottingham to Hathersage

The day started sunny and continued so.  We managed to get out of the city using mainly designated cycle paths - well done to the local council for their provision for cyclists.  Then on into Derbyshire via Eastwood - HILLS!!

A post wasp sting drink
Onward to Matlock Bath, "Derbyshire's Blackpool", for a pleasant lunchtime outside the Princess Victoria pub, during which I was viciously attacked by a wasp, but soon recovered due to Martin's first aid which entailed pouring sachets of vinegar down my neck.

Chatsworth
On to Matlock to try and update the blog.  Having done so, headed off towards Hathersage via Chatsworth.  I think it's a bit disrespectful of the Duke of Devonshire to have half the place surrounded by scaffolding and we therefore didn't honour him with our presence.  To add to Martin's literary theme I spotted that we had passed a place called Candleford and a house called Harper Lees.

  1. Hi Don

Weather forecast for 'up North' looks pretty dire for this week - reckon you will need lots of refuelling stops! On that point, it seems a little unfair (your competition with Martin) - at least he can watch you getting paralytic, but unless you are a bit of an ornithologist, surely he can say 'I've just spotted 'a lesser spotted broad backed feathered Jackdaw', and you would have to accept this?
Mind you, too many of the 5%+ Ales, and you would probably agree to aything.
A complaint (and a request) - could you please pop back to copy the next page of the DH Lawrence novel - fair left me a bit in the air - and I'm too mean to buy another copy!
Love the photos - keep them coming.

    Cheers.

  2. Sorry John, I'd love to oblige but Don says the excitement would probably finish you off completely...you'll have to use your imagination
